Despite the cold weather on Saturday a good crowd was in attend- ance at the Lions Park. During the day, Saturday, entertainment was provided by dancers taught by Bonna- dine Nicelesque and, baton twirlers under the leadership of Mary Helen Bush. Kicking off the Festival on Saturday was the annual 10K and 5K runs with John Szymoniak from Baker the overall winner in the 10K with a time of 38.25. Other winners included: Bill Mc- Chesney, Eugene, coming in first for the 50 years and l older, with 38.49; second was Dale Denson, Halfway, 46:52. In the 40-49 year age group, Mike Higgins, Half- way, came in first with the time of 44:22. In the 5K run Ned Ham- mer, Halfway, was the over- all winner with the time of. 21:29; second place winner was Misty Kirk, Halfway, with 24:59 and third Dustin Kirk, Halfway, 25:03. Saturday evening an audi- ence of 80 were delightfully entertained by the Chautau- qua presentation depicting early Oregon history. For people wanting to do, early Christmas shopping, many vendors had tables laden with craft items. Included were: pottery, chil- dren's clothes, wooden toys, clocks, picture frames, paint- ings, wooden duck decoys, jewelry, wreaths and many more items were waiting for shoppers as well as antiques and yard sale items. Anyone coming hungry to the Festival was not disap- Engagement Announced David Walker, Cora Munson Mr. and Mrs. Bob Walker of Halfway are pleased to an- nounce the engagement of their son, David Walker of Spokane, Wash., to Cora Munson, daughter of Mrs. Chester Munson, both from Spokane. The marriage will take place, October 10, 1986, 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Spokane, Wash., with a reception immediately following. A reception will be held in Halfway, November 28, 1986, 7 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. pointed with a variety of food booths. The Pine Valley Grange ladies Were a hit with their famous pepper bellies as were the Lions with their Polish sausages. Other booths included: barbecued beef sandwiches and sheep herder coffee, ice cream cones and sundaes, elephant ears and beer garden. More people ventured out along with the sun for Sun- day's entertainment and vis- iting. Dennis Curtis, his Pine Eagle Pep Band with their drummer Sam Griffel set toes to tapping during their performance in the after- noon. Summation of the week- end by Ken Perinchief who co-chaired the event was, "It was great, all the Lions me*mbers pitched in and did what they had volunteered for and that made my job much easier." GARY LAM auctioning off carousel made of balloons. The masterpiece sold for $1 0 and the money was donated to the Lions Eye Foundation. Once again, the Pine Eagle High School wrestlers will be taking orders for the Community Birthday Calendar, listing birthdays, anniversaries, and community events for 1987. $4 gets you this handy reference, and helps to finance travel for Pine Eagle wrestling.
