Page 12 Hells Canyon Journal, May 6, 1987 Halfway Boy Scout Troop 437 held their 1st Birthday Celebration April 27. Following a welcome and introduction of special guests, Halfway Mayor Tom Ingrain and Scout represen- tatives from Baker, Bill and Patty Hamley, Scoutmaster Gene Merritt presented a special Quality Unit award from the Blue Mountain Council to Senior Patrol Leader Eric Chick. Awards presented this month were Lee Cloud, 2nd class badge and pin, First Aid Merit Badge and Skill Award, Conservation, and Hiking Skill awards. Levi Chick, First Aid Merit Badge and Skill award. Andrew Vowell, First Aid Merit Badge and Skill award. Lonne Nalder, Andrew Vowell, Levi Chick, Lee Cloud, Ricky Towell and Aren Hyde all received bear claw for participation in the Klondike Derby. Lee Cloud also received special awards for overall camper and fire building contest. Andrew Vowell re- ceived a special award for the fire building contest. Lee Cloud and Joe Ken- n dy received special gold coins for participating in the community service of plant- ing trees with the Halfway Sportsmens Club. Following the awards ceremony, a delicious spaghetti dinner was enjoy- ed.'Scout Master Gene Mer- ritt thanked the boys for their participation, the par- ents for their support and Ass't. Scout Master Lon Nalder. A special thank you went to Ray Zaccone for making the delicious spagh- etti sauce, to Kathie Cloud for baking the cakes and everyone who helped pre- pare and serve dinner. The scouts are looking forward to a fun-filled sum- mer with hikes, a family campout at Fish Lake {among others}, and lots of good learning experiences. A special thank you to Scout Master Gene Merritt for his dedication and com- munity service. THANK YOU I would like to thank Dr. Alanko and the nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the care given to me recently.
