Hells Canyon Journal January 24, 1990 Page 3 Wildlife Artist and Author to Conduct HES Workshop Ron Hirschi, wildlife biolo- gist and writer, will conduct a Young Author's Conference at Halfway Elementary School March 5, 6, and 7. This marks the second year that a pub- lished author has conducted this conference. The purpose is to excite students about authoring their own books. Students learn firsthand how books are created by interacting with an author during the work- shop sessions where they become aware of the time and effort authors and illus- trators devote to producing a book. Ron lives with his family in Suquamish, WA. He has authored twelve books about aspects of nature for children and adults. All students will have an opportunity to meet the author and work with him. Parents and community members are invited to get acquainted with Ron Hirschi at an evening session on Tuesday, March 6, 7:00 p.m. All of the books written by Mr. Hirschi will be on sale before he arrives, so that students and their families may become familiar with his work. In addition, the author will donate any profit from these sales to help cover the cost of the conference. Other fund raising events will be announced; please call Robin Zaccone at 742-2551 if you would like to be involved. Robin said "We are very excited to have an author such as Mr. Hirschi coming to Halfway Elementary School, and we hope that people in the community will take the opportunity to be part of this event." announces...
